One of the many ways you can make money as a photographer is to specialize on events. Weddings, christenings, and all sorts of other events where people make memories can be lucrative business. The great thing is that all you need is a stack of business cards, and a good camera.

How to do it

Cover only events where it is hard for people to take the pics themselves and where they will want to keep their memories frozen in film.

One idea is to go to kids sports events. Get permission from the coach to click pics for the parents watching and then start clicking away. If you turn up with a huge telephoto lens like the ones used for pro coverage of events, you will be taken seriously. Make sure you get all the children doing great action shots and then hand out flyers to all the parents watching with your web address. If you can write down the parents email address so you can email them the URL of you site then upload the pics to your web site that day and email everyone. If you have a simple shopping cart set up you can make money in a few hours as people pop in to see the pics and buy them for $20 or more a pop.

You are creating something that people will keep for years to come. You are capturing a very special moment in people’s lives. Your clients will be looking for a quality track record because it is such a special moment they want capturing. If you are a photographer you might want to consider photographing weddings because there is a lot of money to be made by doing them. With the money comes the risk which you must manage well.

A disclaimer should be included in a well written up first time contract. A disclaimer is something that can prevent you from being sued later on. For example, you should include that you are not responsible for pictures that might get lost after you send the film away to get developed, or pictures that do not come out clear due to equipment failure. You do not want to be sued for breaching your contract.

The hourly rate and how many pictures are to be taken should also be included in the contract. Something else you should include would be the fees for developing and the fee of the album. Make sure you discuss with your clients what their requirements are. They might want a certain person or family they would like pictures of since they don’t get to see them often, so that should be discussed as well if it is an issue.

Occasions like an important conference or a big customer visit do not come often, and it is necessary to keep a record of such events in the form of photographs, which you can later use for both internal and external circulation. This is where corporate photographers play an important role.

Photography for an event is a completely distinct skill, in comparison with other types of this art like nature photography or studio photography. This is basically because events happen fast and the photographer has no say in the proceedings. The task involved in capturing an event requires know-how and a professional attitude on part of the photographer and very few people can do a good job at it. However, the greatest difficulty is that a corporate photographer does not get a retake.

There are some key aspects that you need to be aware of before you go ahead and choose a corporate photographer. Ability to manipulate the equipment so that it works well in an indoor setting is necessary, because most corporate venues do not have any sunlight. Even an excellent photographer would be of little use if the equipment is not of good quality, so you must insist on top-end equipment.

One of the biggest needs that one will need to consider in digital photography is the use of the memory cards. These are in essence the replacement for film in the digital age. These are the simple cards that one can buy to insert into their camera. They increase the memory that the camera originally came with and to improve photo quality as well.

There are many different styles and sizes of memory cards for one to choose from when it comes to digital photography. Different types and styles of cameras will of course require different types and styles of memory cards ranging from the size and the shape of the card in order to accommodate the memory card slot. In some cases, the camera will only be able to hold the type of card made by the camera company. This way you will need to stay specific and will have to only use the equipment available.

General.
Medium Format cameras are often viewed as a big step up from 35mm format cameras. They are certainly the domain of the serious photographer, whether professional, aspiring professional or experienced amateur.

Price is often the most significant factor that stops people stepping up to this format, with fully featured, automatic cameras regularly coming in at well over £2000. Before you are put off for life though, at the other end of the market, for around £200, you can find an entry level camera. Obviously cameras in this price range will not be overloaded with all the latest state of the art features, but you will be able to explore the medium format world. For many former aspiring professionals the step up to this format has led to increases in income quickly offsetting the initial expenditure.

Benefits.
If you wish to sell your photographs in the commercial world then you should seriously consider a medium format camera. Your chances of success are considerably higher when you are able to present to art directors and picture editors the larger slides and negatives produced by these cameras. It is easy to understand why when you consider the fact that the negative size is typically 350% larger that a 35mm negative. Not only do the images look more impressive, but because of the level of details that can be captured in a Medium Format image, enlargements are of a far greater quality. If you are a picture editor this is exactly the level of quality that you demand.

With the advent of digital photography, taking pictures with your camera has become much more fun filled leisure than the reel-times. And thanks to rapid advancements in digital photography, now, you need not be an expert at clicking still masterpieces. The state-of-the-art cameras ensure that you just need to follow basics in order to take good quality pictures.

You will find the following tips useful in your digital photography endeavors:

  1. Master the Zoom feature: Different cameras come with different zoom capabilities. It is always advisable to get close to the subject you are photographing in case you are operating with a camera with limited zoom features. However, most modern cameras don’t require you to really get close with their high-powered zoom capability. The importance of zoom can be gauged from the fact that the clarity of the picture can only improve if you are taking a close-up of the subject.
  2. Learn more about your camera Flash: Your camera flash works best when you are maintaining the prescribed distance from the subject. The thumb rule is that you should neither be too far nor too close to the subject for better results. Therefore, it becomes pertinent to learn more about the range of your camera flash. Similarly, the final results also depend on the background lighting under which you are clicking the photograph. If it’s too dark, then even flash will have limited effect, unless you have a high-powered camera with excellent flash range.
