When a guitarist is looking for that ‘extra’ sound, they usually find it in the form of one produced by guitar effects pedals. And with such effects as distortion, delay and chorus at their disposal, the effects that can be achieved are truly music to the ears. There are vast arrays of sounds available by utilising these three effects. There is also a dedicated guitar if one should be so inclined. Let’s look closer at what each of these effects do.

Distortion

The most utilised of these effects is distortion. It is the most recognisable sound as it has the most impact, both in terms of style and volume, of any guitar effects pedal. Just how much it is utilised depends upon the genre of music being performed. Heavy metal requires a crunchy sound whilst blues calls for a warmer sound. Country music uses it just enough to create a ‘clean’ sound.

Delay

Delay is another popular effect, related to reverb. An analogy of a delay could be the sound of the room that you’re in. A large room creates a boomy sound and a small room, more distinct and brighter. In any room, you’ll hear the original sound followed by the sound that reflects off the walls. The sound actually indicates the size of the room. It is essentially similar to reverb but the sounds aren’t as distinct.

Music Creates Community: Hiring an office party band is a way to connect with your workers through the power of music. Because your office likely has people who value many different types of music, it is important to select the right musical group. There are seven steps that may be followed for maximum enjoyment by party attendees.

Take Stock of Your Environment: Before hiring a band, it is useful to ask around to see the most recent concerts your colleagues have attended. If you are unfamiliar with these artists, you can find out more about them through internet research. It is also possible to present a list of bands that your colleagues love to a potential party band. They will be able to let you know which songs they can play.

Locate the Stage: A stage does not have to be built for the party. The stage area may be made by clearing away some garbage cans from a walkway area. It is just important for there to be an open area for people to watch the band, and a spot for the musical group to plug in their instruments if necessary. The band will also be able to tell you about their specific space needs. Many of them are used to playing in different environments and are generally flexible.

Music for Mother and Child

Summary of a report on the effect of specially composed music on fetuses, infants, toddlers and parents

“We were just visited by a couple and their 8 months-old girl. At one point during the evening she was restless and distressed. I put on the CD “Tales of the Ocean” from the CD series “Music for Mother & Child”, and she began to listen, and calmed down with her mother. After a short time she was asleep – and my unborn child “danced” in my womb.” (Ann, mother-to-be)

Background and objective

In the summer of 1999 the two musicians and composers, Claus D Jensen and Henrik Birk Aaboe, produced the CD series Music for Mother & Child, which contains music specially composed and designed to calm fetuses, infants, toddlers and parents. In the course of the process henrik and Claus received such exciting responses from people that they decided to undertake a private study of the effect of the music on pregnant women, infants and their parents.

They wanted to study the direct effect on fetus/infant, as well as the indirect effect: whether the music could calm down the parents, and whether the tranquillity of the parents could positively affect or be imparted to the fetus/child.

Etobicoke, On. –, 2010 – The D.C. Music Theatre is celebrating their two-year anniversary with a three-day music festival. The all ages festival is taking place on the Easter long weekend starting on Thursday April 1, 2010 and running through to April 3, 2010, at The D.C. Music Theatre (360 Munster Ave. Etobicoke On. M8Z 3C7). The event will start off with an indie night on the Thursday and a punk and metal night to follow, featuring StayleFish, Assassinate The Following, Caym, Polarity and many more.

It wasn’t to long ago when there was nowhere for independent bands to play in Etobicoke. For the past two years D.C. Music has been hard at work turning their production studio into a full out concert hall, giving a home for artists and music lovers to enjoy some great shows. “D.C. Music have been concert promoters for quite sometime now and we created a great stop for touring artists and local bands to showcase their talent to all the local concert goers in this area, and because we do all ages shows it gives the kids in this area a place to get exposed to some great music.” said Marco Mondano president,   ” We are really excited about our 3 day festival, and we want to invite everyone to come out, celebrate and have a great time with us.”
